Note: since my original question put in to the sercurity area did not get answered so far, I am listing it here as well.

I have created my application using Visual Basic 6. Now the app needs to be able to run on a Windows 2003 server , using remote descktop.

when users try to run it, windows pops up a message called "open file ...." and users need to click yes to make it run. I assume if I attach a digital signature with my application , then this message will not pop-up.

Question1: is my assumption correct ?

Question2: if so how can I create a digital signature for my appliction, all I need is to stop that message comming up. I do not however want to change the security policy of the server. Is there a way ( may be with windows itself ) that I can create a Digital signature free?
Or is there a workaround without having to go about the digital signature business at all ? ( again no change to server security policies )

Thanks,
Indika.

I downloaded the CAPICOM and tested some sample apps that come with it. If you have used this dll then can you shed some light on the following questions.

Please note that my knowledge of security and digital segnatures are very nil....

the dll seems to be able to asign a given exe with a digital signature by calling the function  -
SignedCode.Sign Signer
the digital signature however seemed to be created by a third party  - Ascertia.

however I am not sure how I can set the signer value ( the sample code does not assign a value to this)
Signer seems to be pickd up from a digutal signing authority I registered with a few days ago online ( www.Ascertia.com).

My question is I do not want to rely on a third0 party like Ascertia. Is there a windows component or can the CAPICOM itself generat the digital signature.
