Hi there,

We have 3 servers, exchange server, terminal server and a file & print server (DC) all running Windows 2003 server.  We have two offices with two sonicwall firewalls running a secure vpn link.

I would like to be able to have full control over the internet usage by user and to see how the bandwidth is being used, I would be very grateful if someone could recommend to me a good proxy server or utility that we can analyse internet traffic but also to have the control as well.

I am not sure which packages out there are good so I could do with some advice.

Many thanks

Phil

There are so many content filtering products out there of which 'WebSense' and 'SurfControl' names seemed to be very prominent. Now if you want a free solution, I believe Squid which runs on Linux would do the job.

I personally have experience with WebSense and it is great in doing its job. They update the URLs frequently so that you can block 'em or allow them based on your traffic. Now, websense also gets integrated with AD, so the report you can get out of is so granular that you can even see information like who is browsing more, who is browsing more 'non-sense', what are the links they browsed etc. A nice one to have.

Cheers,
Rajesh

I don't know right on top of my head about the pricing. But I would expect you should be going with the 'Web Filtering' application, basic thats about it.

Fortunately they do have evaluation versions, so you can try out before you shell your money out!

The enterprise would be a good start.
