What do I need to have to make sure .htaccess works.
Is it AllowOverride inside directory?

What do you want to do?

     http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/core.html#allowoverride

There are various options that you can specify on the AloowOverride directive to allow for specific overrides.
