We are in the planning stages of changing our internal IP addresses.  This means the PIX names list will need to be updated.

In the past changing one name on the PIX consisted of having to:
1)      Delete the name
2)      Add the name with the new IP
3)      Delete the rule which now shows the old IP instead of the name
4)      Retype the rule using the name instead of the IP reference

Since we will be changing many names on the PIX what do the experts recommend as the better, faster method to use?

This is basically the way to do it .

I would suggest dropping the configuration to a txt file

copy the name section and paste it so you have 2 lists of names and also do the same for the acl section

put no in front of each line in section 1 for names

Adjust ip addresses in section 2 for names

Rinse and repeat for acls

So you end up with a txt file which removes all the old entries and then repopulates with the new

Login to the Pix and paste the contents in.

Appears awkward but it really is the most efficent method.
Thanks,
