I am able to select the "History" tab in Skype2.0.0.107, and using CTRL-F I can search the Titles of chats, but I'd like to be able search the Contents of the Chats.  And if I open one chat at a time, I can search the content.

Is it possible to search the contents of the entire chat history at once?

ctrl-f will do it wont it?
history is opened in IE, it should contain your full chat, do u not get that?

Do u want to search all files?

chat history are held in .dat files in

C:\Documents and Settings\<<yourusername>>\Application Data\Skype\<<username>>\chatsync

U could search using windows folder search
search for "a word or phrase in"

You then have to open the file, using notepad or something
It may contain control characters as skype must be translating this to normal text for you to see

What version of skype are you folks using?  v2.0.0.107
I'm using Firefox v1.5.0.4

Don't know what you mean when you say the history opens in IE.

I double click on the Skype icon in the System Tray at bottom right of the Task Bar.  My chat history opens in the Skype window itself.  There is a tab next to [Contacts] [Dial] [History].

If I select the [History] Tab and open a chat window for any one of the contacts, there is no "History" option.

I also see these files:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Skype\<skypeID>\chatmsg512.dbb

These are Database files of some sort.

Do you know what application will read the *.dbb file?

on the contact name in [History]

right click and select view chat history

if u just view history, skype only keeps a little bit, u need to do the above

skype reads .dbb files

My Windows XP file search utility has been corrupted (again...).   So I used AgentRansack and managed to find the content I'm looking for in the *.dat files. They are not fully readable in Notepad or WordPad.  Lots of special, unreadable, non-ASCII characters.  But the text I needed was there.

Thanks for your help.

No probs

Files are obviously created by Skype so that non ascii stuff might be date/time perhaps, even emoticons, I dont know

Hi,

I think I have found an even better solution for you guys.

I recently found a new application called 'Skype Chat Search' by Kudos Knowledge that allows you to search across all your skype conversations at once, like a global skype chat search.  It's really awesome and already saved me loads of time, as I frequently have different groups chats and can't remember what I said in which.  Check it out at http://www.kudosknowledge.com/default.php?p=skypesearch

Hope this helps.
