Are you geting IP addesses in the same subnet one each computer?

Run ipconfig /all from the command prompt on each computer.  You should se an IP address like 192.168.0.x with a subnet of 255.255.255.0

each computer should have the first 3 sets of numbers in the IP the same (AAA.BBB.CCC.) and the last IP should be different.  Each one should have the same subnet mask.

Make sure file and print sharing is enabled, you can run the home network wiz for that
Make sure each computer has the same user names with the same passwords.

how is your internet setup?  modem - pc - access point - laptop?
do you have a router like: modem - router - pc - ap - laptop?  if so, hook the ap up the to router instead - it has to get dhcp from somewhere in order to grant ip addr to wireless dev's.

using the wired connection & sharing the wireless
