Hello,

this is my situation

1 sbs server 2003
2 terminal server 2003 (cluster with load balancing & session directory)
1 application server 2003

On the application server a crm software solution is installed.
The crm client is installed on the terminal servers.
also office 2003 is installed on the terminal servers.

The problem:
At any time when around 6 users have the crm software opened on the
same terminal server, this terminal server becomes non responsive.
users cannot log on to this terminal server, open mail or browse the network.
when I close al the crm applications in the sessions everything works again
instantly.
The crm application is from another company and they say that the software is
terminal server proof. and that it works on other sites.
what can be wrong

this are the Eventlog errors I get on the terminal servers during the problems(in dutch)

I don't speak dutch, but you might want to have a look at how many client access licences are installed on the machine (CAL's)
You may need to buy more cals so that more concurrant users can access the servers services.

Transalated using BabelFish:

This event can be caused by a temporary discontinuance of the network connection. Should this be reflected once again reported, examines then if the server has been still linked with network. The retourwaarde are themselves in the fact field.
--------
Description: This computer can start no protected session with domeincontroller in field field NAME for the next reason (en): Insufficient rise space available to process this task. This leads possibly to checking problems. Check if this computer has been linked with network. The field administrator consults when the problem continues exist.
--------
Extra information the given as this computer domeincontroller for field are, start these the protected session with the emulator of the primary domeincontroller in the concerning field. If the this case is not, this computer starts the protected session with random domeincontroller in the given up field.
--------
Present for DOMEINNAAM\user has been refused. The user configuration for terminal doesnot can pick up server. Wrongly: Invalid network address.
--------
Donot can zoeken to the list with group policy objects. Check the event unwieldly book on bulletins which have been rather registered by the beleidsengine and which contains possibly the cause for this.
---------

My guess - You need greater network bandwidth and a more robust network, and probably more memory in your system

The more I think about this, the more that I believe that you have saturated one of your network connections with traffic.

As the traffic increases, there are more ethernet packets colliding and these then get re-sent causing an 'avalanche' effect that effectively 'clogs up' your network.

http://www.ethermanage.com/ethernet/10quickref/ch1qr_8.html

..and what's happening is that your network is going through what is referred to in the last paragraph as "truncated binary exponential backoff".

Your bottleneck is the bandwidth - Upgrade to Gb cards and hubs, and I can virtually guarantee that it will solve the problem....but I'm sure that you'll find another problem in due course.

I can only assume that your configuration is very network intensive (Application serving of anything graphical always is). You may be able to resolve the situation by examining bandwidth useage, and perhaps co-loccating applications and data, or installing a second ethernet card to enable a database backend to sit on a different subnet.

Seems like the crm application had a problem. there was an error wich caused tcp ports not to be closed on connection failure, this in combination with an error in the programming wich caused a lot of connection failures made the terminal servers non responsive.

thanks for the suggestions,
