Hi All,

I'm trying to identify the differences, pros/cons between these three:

- Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server
- Microsoft Sharepoint Services
- Microsoft Content Management Server

A simple description would be ideal!!

Cheers

Hi -

sharepoint services is a part of sharepoint portal server and Content management server features are available in sharepoint portal server.

Windows SharePoint Services, that is a component of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 that is the underlying component of Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003.

Windows SharePoint Services gives you the collaborative spaces that allow you to share information and documents as well as the ability to keep history (thought not like you would with content management server) and see who made what changes when you're working with Microsoft Office documents.

SharePoint Portal Server on the other hand gives you topic assistance, enterprise search and personal spaces.

There are a couple of great whitepapers that I bet if you just go to http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint you'd have a blast reading.  Once you've read through them,

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/sharepoint/default.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/cmserver/default.mspx

- Microsoft Content Management Server

With Content Integration Pack both programs together are able to:
a.. Publish documents that were created in SharePoint Portal Server on a Content Management Server Web site.
b.. Update SharePoint Portal Server documents automatically on a Content Management Server Web site.
c.. Use the SharePoint Portal Server search engine to search the contents of a Content Management Server Web
       Site
d.. Integrate Content Management Server approval workflow information into the SharePoint Portal Server Web
