Hard Drive Utility Program
I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop and I was getting the blue screen of death. I deleted the extra partitions it had, formatted the hard drive and I am attempting to install Windows XP Pro with SP2. Now what is happening is that it is taking about 15 minutes to move a single minute in the step “Finalizing Installation.” It reads “Setup will complete in approximately 5 minutes”, which really means at the current rate that it has been going it will take about 75 minutes. I took out the old 256 MB RAM chip and I installed a new one thinking that may solve the problem and it didn’t.
At one point last night, it didn’t complete the installation and I had another blue screen that mentioned something about not being able to copy file C:…$... and it read that it was dumping the physical memory.
Also, when I first attempted to format the hard drive, it didn’t work twice. Do you think the hard drive is shot? Or is it something else? If it is the HD as I suspect, do you know of any good utilities that will repair or at least ignore the bad sectors?
Any thoughts, tips or ideas would be very greatly appreciated!!!
