i recently installed SBS 2k3, i have a domain with exchange set up and 10 users.  When i get the email every morning at 6am with the server performance report it just says:

Server Application Unavailable
The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable.  Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.

Also, when you try to go to http://companyweb/default.aspx you get the same message

Thanks

Did you, by chance, install ASP .NET 2.0 on this server?

If not, have you applied ALL SBS Patches and Service Packs?

Especially the .NET 1.1 SP1?

Well, how about checking to see if asp .NET 2.0 is installed?  If you manually downloaded and installed all patches and service packs that were available, I'm guessing that you may have downloaded and installed all "downloads" that were available, one of which is asp .NET 2.0.

Please remove this from your server and your problem will be resolved.

If you installed SBS SP1 (which consists of 5 separate parts) and did not follow the instructions for installing this important service pack, then you may have other errors due to that install.  Please review http://sbsurl.com/sp1 for complete details.

I know this is a very old question but I felt compelled to just add that I was able to solve this in IIS by selecting ASP.net V1 from the dropdown list of the properties for the backup website under the ASP.net tab. Much easier than an uninstall and less risky.

Good post though.
