Folks,

I've got a small consulting shop.  I use quickbooks for my books.

I've been trying to find a web interface for it -- so techs #2 and #3 can input their hours directly and it'll generate invoices from that..

Anyone heard of applicaions like that?

many thanks!

-- Scott.

I don't know of one that is pre-built, I looked for myself a few months back. Here are the options I came up with.

- There are open source classes that will allow you to build your own using PHP or ASP
- Change over to QuickBooks Online Edition
- Buy each tech a PDA and one of the QuickBooks Sync solutions
- Use terminal services to get to QuickBooks
- Set up a GoToMyPC account that they can connect to when in the field.
- Learn all of the ins and out of a QuickBooks import file and write a small app that they carry on a USB stick to create one.

I settled on Terminal Services initially. The Remote Desktop Client is included on all WinXP installs and for the few clients I have that use Win2k I have the client on a memory stick. I don't really like running Terminal Services in the clear but loading the VPN client is to much to try and do on the clients machine.

I am now switching over to GoToMyPC which is encrypted. This way I will be able to set up a single machine that has QuickBooks loaded for in the field connections. GoToMyPC also has a file transfer feature that will let us download files from or utilities repository. Since you can access the whole desktop you can also update client documentation while on-site. If you haven't used it then give it a try, they give you 30 days to try it out. It runs through a browser and will work even on slow connections.
