Change in Burser - Change name or create a new user?

The burser at the School has been replaced.
There are a lot of tasks etc already setup for the old burser.
Do I just change the user name? A bit messey with all that is involved. I would like to create a new user and leave the old user intact for about 9 months to pass on emails etc to his new posting.
Or setup a new user and transfer all the appointments and tasks to the new user? How would I transfer them to the new user? Export to an exchange file and them import them to the new user? What about permissions between users?
