Invoking stored procedure from InsertMethod of datasource linked to detailview

Hi

Up until now I've been invoking stored procedures from within my own methods and feeding the results to non data-bound controls. Now I want to have a go at getting it to work with a datasource and detailview in insert mode. The thing is I can't figure out how I can do this easily. I've trawled the documentation and it's scant in this area as far as I can tell.

The scenario is this:

I have a stored procedure which validates input, checks for duplicates and goes through other data rule validation and, if OK, returns a success code and an identity value in an output parameter. If it fails, returns a failure code.

So, is there an easy way to hook this up to the automated features of a datasource/detailview combination and handle the results or do I have to programmatically handle it all?

Thanks.

Seems to me that you would like to customize your gridview based on your requirements. I would suggest you to use Object DataSource.

The ObjectDataSource does seem to fulfil my objectives. Thanks.

Is there any overhead involved in using business objects?
