Yahoo messenger 8 webcam behind ISP firewall

Hello,

I am having difficulty in using yahoo messenger webcam services behind my ISP. The trouble is my ISP bans yahoo webcam port numbers and there is no other ISP in the country. It constantly tells me "... network error..." and I have contacted my ISP but they are not intereseted to open webcam ports. Can somebody help me in using my webcam?

Thanks,
Lalibela

Yahoo has different servers for voice, chat and cam's. What with the number of servers and different ports involved, it is a bit of a mess overall to setup. I doubt whether this will work, but i had never tried yahoo services over an open proxy server. Do a google for open proxy servers. Set your internet connection to use that server and try.
Forgot, yahoo does have several settings on messenger preferences that relate to connectivity. Did you try those?

ASKER

Hello,

Can you be more specific. I am a novice here.

Lalibela
In yahoo messenger, i think under file > preferences, you have the option to set up connection related settings. I do not have access to messenger at the moment. Its a poya holiday here. Once i get back to office tomorrow, will explain more simply.
Hello,

it is not with the settings. The isp blocked all ports of yahoo. Is there some port forwarding software?

Hello,

I have heard there is another solution. But I don't know exctly how..

Could you empahsise on the other solution that you heard about? at least vaguely?

AFAIK If the ISP restricts access to you, by blocking the access points at their side, you would need to find a way to get through perhaps by way of an intermediary. I do not know if that is possible. This is a network related question as well. Please post a pointer in the Networking TA (Topic Area) as well to this.
