Why don't you try free hard-disk cleanup tools :
CrapCleaner :  http://www.ccleaner.com
BeClean       : http://boozet.xepher.net/beclean
and DustBuster : http://downloads.pcworld.com/pub/new/utilities/hard_disk/standard.zip

Original ( built-in) windows 2000 hard-disk cleanup fails miserably on my system too.
It takes forever for cleanup tool to detect junk files and  if it does anything the list of file types
is shorter than the list of files offerred by those third party disk cleaning tools.

 good luck
