The power went out in the building (no back up gen).  I had a visio file open.  When I started the computer again, and attempted to open this file, and am getting this error code:

Visio Internal Error Action: 1283: Open File

DOES ANYONE have a way to fix this?  4 hours of work are locked in this.  I am getting chest pains.  Thanks.

Hi gnosticgnowledge,
----------

what happens if you copy the file, rename it and try to open it

Tried that early, however  I gave it another shot.  I noticed this time that the error code is different:

Visio internal error: #2132
Action 1283: Open File
First try closing and reopening the file.  Next try restarting Visio.

bummer, there is a less hopefull thread on this problem here

http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.visio.general/browse_thread/thread/21f2e7bcdfb22074/50c1125190cc8f3b

it states that if have this problem on a machine with Visio 2003 without SP2 you can update to SP2 to prevent this problem but cannot retrieve your data from a file that already became unopenable

maybe you can still open it in the viewer
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3fb3bd5c-fed1-46cf-bd53-da23635ab2df&displaylang=en

or maybe you can embed the drawnings in powerpint and work back from there to visio
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/assistance/ha010777991033.aspx#add
check the text under the heading > Embed a drawing on a slide
