I have had this computer for over 2 years.  It has recently started running slow.  I reloaded the OS (XP) and it still has problems.  Everythhing when it gets warm. The mouse and keyboard will work for a few seconds then pause/lockup for a few seconds.  It does this until I shut it down and let it cool down then it works better.

If you can't open the case and properly clean it, then use a can of compressed air and blow out all the dust. Opening the case and doing a thorough "spring clean" would be the better option though. You should then also check the fans are running smoothly, and if not replace them. Removing the heatsink from the CPU, cleaning the CPU's and the Heatsink's surface, then adding just a tiny amount of thermal transfer paste, and then reattaching the heatsink firmly usually helps too.
