I am installing Nagios NRPE package in my Ubuntu machine and upon running the ./configure command, i get this error

checking for SSL... configure: error: Cannot find ssl libraries
and the installation stops...
I googled this error but couldn't find a fix.
I installed openssl package, but that didn't fix it..

Any suggestions?
Thanks,

On certain AIX systems the ssl development package lives in

 /opt/freeware/include/openssl

instead of the expected

 /usr/freeware/include/openssl

If this is the case, edit the file

 ../nrpe-2.8.1/configure

and find the line

 for dir in $ssl_inc_dir $ssl_dir /usr/local/openssl /usr/local/ssl /usr/lib/ssl /usr/ssl /usr/pkg /usr/local /usr /usr/freeware/lib/openssl; do

Change this line to contain the path

 /opt/freeware

like so:

 for dir in $ssl_inc_dir $ssl_dir /usr/local/openssl /usr/local/ssl /usr/lib/ssl /usr/ssl /usr/pkg /usr/local /usr /usr/freeware/lib/openssl; do
