Setting up Outlook Web Access on Exchange 2003

I have an issue with Exchange Server 2003. I am running Server 2003 Small Business Edition and i am trying to set up Outlook Web Access. I have done this before and got it working but am having difficulties this time.
In IIS the server does not have a default web site. i think this is because IIS was imported from another server using the IIS migration tool.
I have created an Exchange Virtual Server under HTTP in system manager and am using port 8080 and 443 for SSL.
When i try and connect to http:\\servername/exchange i get a box asking for my username and password. After entering this i just get a page cannot be displayed page.
If i try to connect to https:\\servername/exchange then i dont even get the password box.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

But i dont think that should matter

The iis settings should have been made for you by default
