Arcserve Exchange Agent Crashes on a Restore

Hello All

I have Brightstor Arcserve V9 Build 2040 with the Exchange Agent on 2003 Server. When I attempt a restore the job crashes as its diconnecting. I am attempting to restore the "Drafts" folder in a user's mailbox.

Any ideas why this is happening and what steps I can take to fix this?

Cheers
Chris

Try to restore to a special user account only used for restores, I'll call it "Restore", and not directly to the real user. If the restore worked, you can copy or forward whatever you restored to the user. If it works that way there could be something corrupt in the user's database and you'd have to use the exchange tools to clean the exchange store. Also make sure you have servicepacked and patched arcserve.

Look somewhere in Arcserve's restore interface for an option where you can turn off "Restore files to original location". and then you should be able to select some other mailbox.
There is also an indication in your log file that the server is expecting friday's tape and you have thursday's tape mounted...

I was trying different tapes. I tried switching off the option to different location but there were no mailboxes to restore to. Can you give me some steps to follow?

I don't know Arcserve's interface enough to be able to help more, but there must be an option to restore to another location.

I manage to get it to restore. I  reinstalled the agent and all went fine. On my daily backups I now receive a message "Cannot compare dbagent session" and "Cannot compare a system state session". What causes this and how can I overcome this?

You have probably set up arcserve to compare your backup with the data on the server after a backup. Since the system state and also databases, particularly the exchange information store changes all the time, these types of data will have changed after the backup and won't properly compare. If possible I'd turn off the compare option after the backup, and only compare the static data. If you can't turn that off selectively either live with it or don't compare at all. From my experiance it is a lot better to manually restore selected data after a backup and open the files with the app that originally created it, as that show much better if the job worked.
