NTBackup Utility in SBS 2003 does not recognize tape drive

sbs 2003 on new dell server. I have veritas 10d quick start edition that we purchased with the server. I am not finding any articles on backing up exchange 2003 using veritas and what to exclude. However, I see posts on using NTBackup utility to backup exchange. I tried to do that but NTBackup does not recognize the tape drive and only allows me to backup on hard drive. Why is it doing that? I can run regular file backup fine using veritas and the tape drive but have been failing from ntbackup.

if you got the SBS version of Veritas BackupExec , it includes "Agents" for exchange & SQL. And works well in that it backups individual mailboxes.

Without the Agents, you are correct in that BE is not Exchange aware,

And SBS Backup is Exchange aware as you know.

SBS Backup is a speciailised version of NT BAckup.
NTBackup certainly recognises my tape drives . Sony AIT2 &  HP DAT24.

So the problem is more a Windows2003 problem with tape drive.

What tape drive have you connected ?  (Make & Model)
To what controller ?

I bought the quickstart edition 10d for SBS when we bought the server from Dell. It was only 50 bucks...so I am thinking that it did not come with agents...so I bought an upgrade from CDW.

you may be correct as the "QuickStart" tag and $50 is a lot different to what I got !

If the upgrade is to SBS Std then all should be ok.
