Rich Edit Control Crashes dialog before it's shown

I'm having a problem using RichEdit 2.0 controls in a MFC dialog application. I'm using MSVC++.NET.
Whenever there's a RichEdit 2.0 control in my main dialog, the dialog fails to show up (probably because OnInitDialog fails).

Anybody know how to properly create this control?

this problem is old and very anoying

you need to add the following line:

AfxInitRichEdit();

before you try to show the dialog
