Microsoft Update KB917537 failed

The July updates from Microsoft gave several of our servers fits.  KB917537 failed to install.  On one server it just plain fails to load (along with the July 2006 Malicious Software Removal Tools). On a couple of 2003 Servers it hung on install then acted like it installed (from the MS update point-of-view) but doesn't show up on the list of updates (control panel -> add remove programs - show updates).

How do we install it on the computer that still shows it failed and how do we fix the the servers that hung on install, don't show it loaded, and don't think it needs to be loaded?

Assuming you used the Automatic Updates interface and failed (I have an issue with another one on a single XP PC), you can go to the following link and get to the proper download page and file for your specific version of 2003 Server:

I have found that many times a single downloaded file installs fine when Automatic Updates fails.  Not 100% of the time, but certainly the vast majority of the time.

Give it a shot.
