are you logged into the local admin account on that computer?
are you able to uninstall other items in add/remove programs?

Try using "symantec" as the password.

You may not be able to reinstall the program. I just found a site that has tools to remove symantec products. Syumantec does not publish it. I fund it while installing antivirus for a client.

One of my HDs would not install the antivirus 2005. Using one of the programs on the site, I was able to uninstall it. It even let me reinstall it withou tasking for the key!

The password files are stored in the registry...

I just had to remove the installation of NAV 10.0 Corporate (to install 2006 Corp Server as part of a promotion)...

Search the registry for:

"UseVPUninstallPassword"

Change to "0"

Making this change allowed me to uninstall...

Warning: Backup registry first: Only try if you are comfortable in the system registry.

Have you tried the "NoNav.exe" solution?
It is available from a variety of sources, but can sometimes be hard to find.

I went into Norton Internet Security and logged in with a blank password.  Following that I was able to go back into Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it.
