Offline server in Exchange 2003 / Disater recovery Testing

Experts,

Was after a bit of advice about how I can repaet what i did with 5.5 now I have moved on and got 2003

Basically, we had Exchange 5.5 and we backup every night to tape. As a test, We created a replica server, same name, settings etc. But on different older hardware. This server was seperate from the network. But what we could do is take a tape from the production server and restore it onto this replica to test it was working. The replica was there for worst case scenario of the production server failing with a problem. It could then just drop onto the network and take over until production server was fixed.

Question is how can I achive this in Exchange 2003 in a 2003 AD. My test server will not be same hardware as production so Ghosting isnt really a option as would get BSOD.

Regards

Richy

Not necessarily (BSOD) , but the risk is high.

I think you have 3 choices:

-In worst case scenario install the server os into old machine , and then restore,restore,restore....

-Or searching for specific software like http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/ATIESWin/ (never used it!).

-Use the ghost image and in case of BSOD perform Repair install http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325375/
