Prevent Word from truncating underlined spaced text

I have an app where I create an rtf file and then display it in the richtextbox control. Part of the wording is underlined with a trailing space. The code for the file looks something like this:
    " blah blah blah " & space$(15) & " \ulnone\par"
If this file is printed from wordpad, then the underlining continues through the 15 spaces; however, if someone opens this in Microsoft Word, the underlining only goes through the last "blah".  What can I do to make the underlining stay the same if someone opens this file in Word?

I've solved my own problem simply by replacing the Space$'s with underline keystrokes "_".
I need to close this question out and can't give myself the points.

I was working on a PowerPoint add-in the other day and a client asked me "can you implement a feature which processes a chart when it's pasted into a slide from another deck?". It got me wondering how to hook into built-in ribbon events in Office.
