What does the following statement do for the AJAX code that follows?

 baseUrl="${contextPath}/dropdown.view"

<ajax:select
  baseUrl="${contextPath}/dropdown.view"
  source="make"
  target="model"
  parameters="make={make}"
  preFunction="initProgress"
  postFunction="resetProgress"
  errorFunction="reportError"
  parser="new ResponseXmlParser()" />

You are using AjaxTags which is used for JSP, not JavaScript.  I think you should ask this question to be moved to Java Programming Topic Area.
