xp ghosted now dead

I've done this many times before and no problem, now toast.
I ghosted the old 40 on to a new 80.  FAt32. xp home. all done on the same original computer
now it comes up to the black screen with xp showing and then it kills the video connection; my monitor's green light goes orange like when the computer is off.

Is a repair install my only option?  I hope not.

safe mode works so I went into event viewer and found many system errors.  Most refer to a device on the system not working porperly.  some refer to services not loading up. I'm guessing due to a device not working.

I figured because of the timing of the shutdown that it was a driver; I was right.  Video driver had to be uninstalled and redone.  All's well

Points to me.

thanks anyway
