Low Disk Space (HarddiskVolume8) Message every day

My SBS 2003 Server Performance Report tells me DAILY that:

Low Disk Space (HarddiskVolume8) 7/19/2006 5:51 AM 1
The following disk is low on free disk space. Low levels of free disk space can cause performance problems and prevent users from saving files on the disk.

Drive Letter: HarddiskVolume8
Free Disk Space: 0.000000. MB
% Free Disk Space: 0.000000.%

You can disable this alert or change its threshold by using the Change Alert Notifications task in the Server Management Monitoring and Reporting taskpad.

My server has no HarddiskVolume8 and there is no disk with 0MB free space.  This is a nuisance, besides the curiosity of why this is happening every day.

Any ideas?

Yep, you have a USB Hard drive that you're attaching to your server and not removing with the Safely Remove Hardware tool.

In order to avoid this error message you should click on the remove hardware icon in the system tray before removing the hard drive.

You are correct that I have a USB hard drive.  In fact, I have two which I rotate and take off site for backups.  One of them is always plugged in.  Does the operating system "think" that the other drive is plugged in, versus the one that is connected>

Yeah, proabably.  I've seen that happen when USB drives are used for backup (which I almost always do) but they aren't removed properly.  So, you can either ignor the error or remove the drives with the Safely Remove Hardware icon.
