Moving Cloud Effect

Hi All,
I've downloaded a sample .fla file that shows how to create a moving cloud effect over a static image. A mask layer is used to filter where the clouds will pass over. I've tryed to copy this flash file and set up a similar one but can't seem to figure out how to set up the mask to make the clouds pass over the image correctly. I wonder would someone be kind enough to have a look at the source .fla file for the sample and tell me where I'm going wrong. www.reachateacher.ie/images/venice_clouds.fla
Alternatively if someone has come across a really cool moving cloud effect that they feel is better than this one I'm open to changing it.
Thanks so much for your time,
D

ok when you copy the effect from that file what you want to do is have one layer which has a shape that is the mask, hen the next layer down from that you have the movie clip that shows through the shape mask. then on layer top layer select the bit where it says the name and number, right click and select "mask". That’s it really. If you put up the flash file that doesn’t work, I can take a look and tell you what you’re missing to make the mask work

Hi rabidlemming,
>>then the next layer down from that you have the movie clip that shows through the shape mask

Not sure how to make the layer a child layer so that it applies the mask to it.
I've uploaded to the file I'm working on: www.reachateacher.ie/images/oliver_flash.fla
if you could have a quick look to see whats going on with it.
Thanks again,
D

Hi rabidlemming,
Yes thats great, the background is working correctly, just need to change it so that the owl character is shown and the clouds don't pass over him and instead the "moving" layer is only shown over the clouds in the original picture (therefore the moving cloud effect). Is this easy to change?
Thanks,
D

Not sure if that makes sense lol . Basically I want the owl in the foreground and the cloud moving effect  behind him.
Cheers

ok i see now sorry: download the file again from: http://www.rabidlemming.co.uk/oliver_flash.fla  I am sure that’s what your after, the reason for it not working was the object you were using for the mask wasn’t a shape but an bitmap image. You just had to brake it apart to make it a shape

Hi rabidlemming,
Thanks for that. Is there any way of turning the image of the owl into a shape without losing the picture quality? At the moment its a little blurred. Also, if you would be so kind as to briefly document how to went about making the document the same as the sample. Sorry to be bothering you with it!
Thanks so much,
D

ok ill do my best ...ok

Firstly the Layer 1 I cut and pasted the blue cloud object to a new layer that ill call mask
I then turned that into a shape by right clicking on it and selecting break apart.
I moved the layer called Moving down so it was below the layer called mask

I moved the layer 1 above layer 2 so the owl was on top of everything
i removed layer 2 as it had nothing in it
I extended the frames for layer 1 to the end so it lasted as long as other layers.
I right clicked on that mask and selected the option for mask

that's it, if you have trouble following that i can maybe do a recording of it or explain again more clearly

Thanks rabidlemming,
Thats clear, much appreciated. I'll need to change the whole moving cloud image though as it looks a bit crappy. I'll post a new question about it to see if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks again,
D
