The title of your post suggests you're looking for "Utilities" - is that true?

What type of utilites (Network, System etc.)?

In any case, this is one of the best site for free utilities:

 http://www.sysinternals.com/

They were just bought by Microsoft, so who knows how long it will stay free....

What OS?  What type of utilities?

     http://sourceforge.net/index.php

Use you favorite search tool and just enter "free software downloads".  Not everything will be free, but you will get tons of results.

aaaaaa6, I cant claim it is new, but you might want to try ethereal and see what is going on at a packet level on your network. I use it reguarly to troubleshoot problems, devise strategies to block agressive internet progrms.

i.e. if I dont want anyone on a network to use a program like, MSN Messenger but they have multiple connection mehtods, then I analyse what traffic the messenger program makes, and block it based off that.

So MSN Messenger when using a proxy server tries to access a resource called 'gateway.dll', so I block that at proxy.
MSN Messenger via NAT, will first resolve messenger.hotmail.com, then conenct to port TCP 1863; so I add an entry to the DNS server for a bogus messenger.hotmatil.com record, and also block outgoing TCP 1863 at firewall

http://www.ethereal.com/

*And r-k,
Just wanted to add that I am gutted MS bought  http://www.sysinternals.com/
**Experts, go get the source code and utilities

Is this related to your other question?

If you want to know about which software is being launched at startup, as you're using Windows XP, try "msconfig".

Click Start--Run, and type "msconfig" in the box, then click OK.  The tabs you should be particularly interested in are "Services" and "Startup".  You can disable/enable the various items with this.

If you want to moniter what is happening to your computer, in real-time, try Filemon from SysInternals (http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Filemon.html).  Be warned though, it's a bit overkill for what I think you want, and is not for the faint-hearted!

Steve :)

I am not sure what you are asking.  Are you looking for new ftp, telnet, ssh server?  Or are you looking for things like packet capture, IDS, IPS, firewalls?  Or are you looking for penatration testing software?

We need a bit more information on exactly what you are looking for.

Umm, you know there are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of these released in a single day and most claim to be helpfull.  Some are and some are not.  The same software/programs/utilities are avalaible across many sites and will gererate a ton of hits.  There is no single site that covers all of them.

see my link :-))
well not all, but covers roughly 1% according recent studies about the "dark sites in internet" which are about 99%
aaaaa6, if you finished with this 1% (see link) then I start to post parts of the remaining 99%, agreed?
