javascript text compression/decompression

hi, i'd like to output from asp.net some large csv text to client javascript. i was hoping there might be a compression algorithm to strip down the size. then use client's javascript to decompress it. possible ?

I doubt this is very practical as Javascript is quite slow. For instance, check out http://rumkin.com/tools/compression/compress_huff.php which uses a compression algorithm in Javascript.

I inputted a large amount of dummy text. This is what I got:

Done.  Compressed by 48% (15740 -> 8121)

Which is pretty good, but it took at least 3 minutes, and countless times, I had to manually tell Firefox to continue the slow script.

Thus, I don't think compression is the way to go. If you want to let the client know of your progress, why not use some AJAX and send the file in parts?
