Event ID: 10000 Unable to Start DCOM Server

Unable to start a DCOM Server: {73E709EA-5D93-4B2E-BBB0-99B7938DA9E4}. The error:
"Access is denied. "
Happened while starting this command:
C:\WINNT\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe -Embedding

I receive the error message above and I have tried everything in the book.  Searched the web and tried the Microsoft recommended steps as well as many others found across the web, but I continue to get this error message logged.  Please help with resolving this or please shed more light on why this is happening.  I am not a DCOM expert so I am turning to you guys.  Thanks.

Environment:
Windows Server 2003

you can try the suggestion here:

Someone here had the same issue and said the only fix was a fresh install.  I don't think that's the best route at this point.

I would first try to figure out what is causing the access denied error by using the utilities mentioned in the first link.

This issue has been resolved by installing Service Pack 1

I did not realize I was working with an unpatched box.  I was handed this machine by a co-worker and did not realize it was a fresh install with no patches.  Pathced the machine and the error went away, with no more issues.
1. This issue occurs when registry entries that are required for Winlogon notifications are missing from the registry of the Terminal Server computer. See M914052 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;914052) for details on this issue.

This event may occur if you try to install Media Center Extender for Windows XP Media Center Edition when Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is installed on a dynamic disk. See M896029(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;896029) for a solution to this problem.

See M911143(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;911143) for additional information about this event.

2. The problem happened while starting the command “C:\WINDOWS\System32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe -Embedding". By giving the rights (Read/Execute/List) to the Network service on the C:\ drive, it fixed problem.

3. - GUID: {E63F16AA-7C16-4697-826C-98B7A5092299} - See "Citrix Support Document ID: CTX102954" and "Citrix Support Document ID: CTX104534".

If you have McAfee GroupShield 4.5 for Exchange installed, then see "Network Associates Support Solution ID: nai15013" to fix this problem.

From a newsgroup post: "If you have a folder named “<drive:>\Program Files\Microsoft” in addition to “<drive:>\Program Files\Microsoft Office”, rename the first folder to something else. This is a known WinNT bug".

As per Microsoft: "The Component Object Model (COM) infrastructure could not activate the requested server. Possible causes include:
- There is not enough memory available
- An error occurred with another file that the COM infrastructure depends on". See MSW2KDB(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/support/ee/transform.aspx?ProdName=Windows%20Operating%20System&ProdVer=5.2&EvtID=10000&EvtSrc=DCOM&LCID=1033) for more information.

See the link to M247962(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;247962) for additional information on this event.

4. If you are running Outlook 2000 and Windows 2000 and you are getting the message "Microsoft Exchange Address Book was unable to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer. Contact your system administrator if the problem persists", check for these registry entries on your client machine. If they are not there, add them and it will probably fix your problem:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Rpc\ClientProtocols]
"ncacn_np"="rpcrt4.dll"
"ncacn_ip_tcp"="rpcrt4.dll"
"ncadg_ip_udp"="rpcrt4.dll"
"ncacn_nb_tcp"="rpcrt4.dll"
"ncacn_http"="rpcrt4.dll"
