Call of Duty 2 game error

I run the Call of Duty 2 .exe after I updated from v1.0 and patched it with 1.3 from callofduty.com/patch and this is the error I get...what happend, how do I fix it so I can continue playing?

FreddieKrugerGuy Feb 16 2006: Uninstall the game. (Make sure you delete all the COD 2 files & folders.) Re-install. See if that works.
chrisdyas1 Feb 16 2006: thanx it works now. i tried reinstalling before but forgot to delete the activision folder CHEERS

I have saved games/profiles and do not want to re-install. Is that my only option or are there other solutions to this? Why would the update do this to my game if its an "update" lol?

What are the version numbers of DirectX and your graphics drivers?
Looks like the patch is expecting a more recent version than the one it found.

maybe after you reinstall you can just copy and replace the saved games folder to the new reinstalled one

I just recently downloaded the full installation of Direct X v C for my sister. I'll grab it from her computer and see how that goes. Hopefully re-installation isn't the last choice because that would seriously be a pain in the arse to do the 6 cds again!

(not to rain on anyone's parade, but doesn't that seem incredibly stupid that updating the game should cause this so often? What are those people at Activision thinking!?!)

(btw, Multiplayer runs fine. I try to run in Single player safe mode, same error)

I have no idea what Ihave MASQUERAID, but I did update with the patch, I'm just using that one file from the original installation, so who knows!
