Can anyone tell me what sqmdata00.sqm is for?

GooD Day Experts,

A user has no recolection of creating the sqmdata.sqm files on a network drive and they continue to sychronize upon reboot.  Can anyone give me some info on these files like what programs they are created by or created for and whether I can delete them?

Thanks,

Do you have or use MSN Messenger?

Some versions of that programs apparently create these .sqm files (sqm = Service Quality Monitor)

Yes the user of this machine does use Windows Messenger Live(all the time).  Is there a way to adjust where these files are saved with in WML?  Because these weren't saved on the C drive, these were saved on a network drive that is configured to be mapped every morning upon login.

THanks,

Ellsworth

Dear r-k, would appreciate if you could let me know the website which tells how to do that.
It's been a while, so I can no longer recall the exact reference, but here are a couple I ran across just now, in case they are helpful:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.msn.messenger&tid=dc3cc23c-b0ef-439e-9785-14e029d57c81&m=1&p=1
http://www.techsupportforum.com/microsoft-support/windows-xp-support/107272-msn-live-messenger.html

In particular, try this fix, which is near the bottom of the first link above:

"I heard that in addition to NOT joining Microsoft's Customer Experience
Improvement Program (CEIP) from the Tools > Options > General page, you
also need to click on Help > Customer Experience Improvement Program
and choose the "I don't want to participate right now" option. "

This may help.  I'm having the same problem with one user on our network.  Network files disapear and the SQM files show up.  These files show up in a shared folder on the server.  I found this information while doing some google searches.

these are generated by the SHARED FOLDER service of live messenger,
go to live messenger and disable the shared folder options

AND THEN turn off the Messenger sharing service USN journal that
you will find among the services

doing the first only works too... but dont just turn off the service without
doing the setting I said in live messenger

to find the services go to START > run > and type services.msc and press
enter, right click on the service and select stop>
and then disable it

Hope this helps.  I have not tried it yet.
