SBS Fax program failing to receive faxes with event 32092

SBS fax program has been working flawlessly for quite a while. Yesterday I Performed a reboot on the server and today I started noticing that no faxes where coming in. We are getting the following error. When trying to send a test fax via an external source, Their machine comes back with a "Comm error 321" error.

The line tests out in good condition. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi arrowtech,

This could happen if your server is configured to answer on the first ring

-> http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=839501 <-

Any other errors in there?

Also, if I were you, I would post a question in community support and ask that your fax number be removed

Hope that helps,

ASKER

Thanks Red sea technologies,

I should of mentioned that i already tried that and it was already at 2 rings and i actually changed it to 3 to see if it would make a change but to no avail. I also went to the properties of the modem and then selected Advanced and entered the string S32=98 as i found as a suggestion from another website.

P.S. As soon as I submitted the post I realised about the fax number. Do'h. Thanks for that.

arrowtech,

It looks from the error message that you are using an External Modem, if it's a USB modem, then that is your problem.  I've never had any success with USB Modems.  They will tend to stop working after awhile and you may be able to restart it by powering it off and on, but eventually it won't work at all.  I'm not sure why this happens, but I've found that it's just easier to get a different modem.  You should get a class 1 fax modem, such as a USR5610B or similar.  If you absolutely need to use an external modem, you should use a serial connected device.

Thanks Jeff,

The modem that we currently have connected is through a serial cable. Today I'm going to purchase another modem (D-Link ext 56k Voice and Data Modem) as Red suggested aswell and then test that. Hopefully it will fix it all up. I will put a post up to let everyone know how it goes. Cheers.

No problem, but why would you go with another external modem?  That's what is really at issue here.

I agree, internal modems are much better (IMHO)

Now you know it is the modem that is at fault, you can get a new (good) internal modem
