How to catch a database exception

Hi all...

I have downloaded a PHP class that manages database connections. The problem I have is when the class sends an error, for example, duplicate key, I cannot catch that error:

I wrote this try catch block:
        try
        {
                $db->execute("INSERT INTO usuario (nombre, apellido, login, password, email, esadmin) VALUES ('$nombre', '$apellido', '$login', '$password', '$email', $esadmin)");
        }
        catch(Exception $e)
        {
            echo "-->" . $db->$lastResult;
            exit();
        }

and $execute method is implemented this way:

function execute($query, $debug = -1)
    {
      $this->nbQueries++;
      mysql_query($query) or $this->debugAndDie($query);

      $this->debug($debug, $query);
    }

When a duplicate key is to be inserted, a not friendly error is displayed tellig about that.

Why the catch block doesn't work?

Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Because the execute method doesn't throw an exeption. By the looks of it, it just sends some debug info and dies.
You will have to implement your own exeption if you want to try/catch.
