emacs question

If I am using emacs, how can I make a new buffer with a command prompt?  e.g. I would like to use a command prompt from within emacs.  I don't just want to run one command at a time, I want a whole buffer for the bash shell.

Thanks.  I'll ask another question of how to change the background color of the shell's buffer.  You can answer that one too if you like.
