Dial-up modem access to console port 6513 switch with 720 sup. engine

Hi again,

Have a Cisco 6513 IOS switch and am trying to set up remote access to it from a dial-up connection. Am using a USR Sportster 56k faxmodem. I've used the init string (a couple of different ones) for this modem after returning to factory default settings without any success. As far as I have read, there is no config for the console port except for exec timeout and maybe logging synchronous, but nothing to configure to make the connection. When i use hyperterminal to connect to the modem by itself it answers the call. When I connect it up to the console port (using the modem cable that came with the switch), the modem doesn't answer. I've restarted my switch after each attempt also(it is offline).

Any suggestions?

Will try this on Monday.

After searching for a while, finally found a 33k USR modem that worked after following your procedure. I was doing the procedure on the 56k modem but never got it to work. Is there any difference between using 33k compared to the 56k?

There should not be. I've done it dozens of times with the 56k with no problems at all..
Perhaps you just had a bad 56k?
