Windows 2003 SBS cannot obtain the domain controller name event ID: 1054

Greetings Experts!
Perhaps you guys could help in resolving this issue for me...
On a freshly installed Windows 2003 SBS fully patched Server, I'm getting the following error message: Event ID: 1054
Windows cannot get the Domain Controller name for you network. (And unexplained network error ocurred). Group policy processing aborted.

Server is set up as: server.local.com, dcdiag and netdiag results passed OK.

Thank you in advance for you assistance.

I would check the DNS settings first.

Event ID Troubleshooting
Event ID 1054 - Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer ... You also receive the Event ID 1054 in the application event log: ...

The SBS IP config shows:
IP: 192.168.1.11
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gate: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.11

netdiag passed. The DNS appears to be set correctly as all the DNS entries for the DC are registered on the DNS Server '192.168.1.11'.
How should I test to see if it is setup correctly as a DC?
What speed is your NIC?
What type is the NIC and the Switch/hub it is attached to?

If it is a 1 GB  NIC and Hub there can be an incompatability, where it does not detect itself.
You could try changing the media sensing down to a lower setting until the errors go away.

Wait a minute... what do you mean the server is set up as server.local.com??

Please run "systeminfo" at a command prompt and post the results here.

The embedded NIC and HUB are both Gigabit w/ good response times between the two and none dropped.

Here is the systeminfo >

Well, it's fine that you edited out "some" information, but I did need to see the Product ID, which is not your Key, it's the media version you are using as well as the system manufacturer and model.  Why would you think that this information shouldn't be shared?

I also would have wanted to see the entire list of hotfix(s) installed, even though a number of them will only say "File 1" or something like that.  Especially because you say this server is "fully patched" yet you are short about 50 hotfixes.

Please repost a full systeminfo again.;  The only lines that really have any personal information are as follows:
Registered Owner
Registered Organization
Domain
and perhaps HostName and Logon Server, but if you edit these, be consistent in your edits so I know that you don't have a problem there.

Thanks.
