Mozilla - Macromedia Flash Player

Hi guys,

Does anyone know how to setup Mozilla to open .exe file which is macromedia flash file in a flash player? I have flash files which were saved as .exe and unfortunately I don't know how to setup Mozilla so that it will recognize these files and open them in a flash player.

Thanks in advance.

... Why don't you just rename the files to .swf if they are Flash or .flv if they are Flash video? Also, if they are Flash video you will need a .flv player. I recommend http://www.martijndevisser.com/blog/article/flv-player-updated .
I dont think its possible to play self-contained flash players in a browser... They're no longer a pure-swf file, so they're not what the browser plugin is intended for.

By all means get the flash player from Adobe (formerly Macromedia) and see what that does for you, but you should just run the exe (if its from a trusted source)

Thanks guys,

Is there any way to setup your mozilla browser to recognize these .exe files and open them using the macromedia flash player? I have the player installed and opening the .exe files work perfect but I want to automate it. Part of the automation is to tell mozilla what to do with this .exe files. Currently, mozilla doesn't know how to open it so all it does it prompts me to save the file but I really want to open it using flash player (which I have installed). If you go through the mozilla options you can see how certain file extensions are to be handled (e.g. swf will be opened using adobe flash player, etc), but I don't have a way to add .exe extension and to tell the browser that every time a file of this sort is pushed it should play it using flash player. Pretty much the .exe files that I'll be opening on this PC are the flash videos only.

Any ideas or am I stuck with manual double click and open deal?

Thanks a lot

It's worth a try. Thanks for the quick answer.
Oli, it did just as you said it would. Now I can specify what I want to do with .exe files but when the flash player opens it doesn't play the file but it displays a blank, white page. Any ideas why? Thank you very much for helping me.
Does the flash player open up and play?

There's no scope for opening it in the browser because as I said to begin with, a exe flash player is very different from a plain old .swf.
The flash player opens but it's blank, white background and it doesn't play the file. This is exactly what I wanted. If it could play the file this would be a perfect solution for my need. Thanks again Oli.
To clarify (and I'm sorry if I confused you). I meant, the exe file opens in a flash player (which is what I wanted) but with a white background without images and file does not play.
Oli, your suggestion did what I asked so by using the link above and the instructions in that link I was able to modify Mozilla so the next time you are trying to open an exe file it will ask you what to do rather than just saving it as default. In my case it didn't work because the player was still not able to play flash media but I got it working now :) Points are yours
