User accounts and program connectivity
I set up an internet connection through a proxy server in Internet Explorer. This was done on a typical user account. The problem is that IE is connecting just fine but a program that I use will not connect. THe weird thing is that it will work if you are signed in as an administrator?!?!? I need to allow this program to connect under a regular user account, but cannot figure out why it will not work. Any suggestions?
The OS is Windows XP Prof
Thanks!

Is the application "proxy aware" ? Many are and many are not. If yours is not, try setting the URL of where it needs to go in the exceptions list in the IE proxy settings.
look at the log. see what is blocked at the time you attempt the connection. (port number and protocol) open that up on the proxy. if the log doesnt tell you fund out what the port and protocol the program uses to access its resources.

I am not sure if these solutions will work, but I will give them a try. The proxy settings work when logged in as administrator, that is what I do not understand. What is the administrator account allowing the program to do that the regular user account does not? Actually now that I think about it the proxy has to be used for everything in order to get out. So I do not think that adding the URL to the exceptions list, even if I could find the URL.
