MySQL Windows registry keys

I need to test whether mysql has been isntalled on a computer, preferably by checking the registry. Is there a key in the windows registry that will show up irrespective of the version of windows used?

Im working with an old MySQL server, version 4.0.26

Why not search for the keys? Start regedit and search for key with mysql in it. A few should show up.
