Password personal.pst(1)

Ok, so 15 years of computer experience and I'm confounded totally!

I connected remotely to my moms machine tonight to help her.  She says its another e-mail problem - probably set the current view strangely again.

Nope.

Upon double clicking on outlook, I get, a small rectangular box: enter password for personal.pst(1) file...

Uh, never seen that.  Did a scan of .pst files.  None.  Finally found outlook.pst in the local settings of administrator.

Boot up outlook express, and I get the same box.  So I put in my mom's pop3 password and outlook express downloads 8 months of my sisters mail.

Then I boot up outlook, put in that password and my mom's mail comes back, but in a different set of folders, you know, inbox, sent, drafts, etc etc.
A message states that the mail is now going into new folders and should it move the old mail.  Where did these new folders come from?
All my mom's old mail is in folders at the top.

Her address book is empty.

What the heck?   Does any of this ring a bell?

Weird.  Very very weird!

So how do I clean this mess up?  It's outlook 2000.

OK, thanks.

Mom only uses Outlook 2000.  I guess my sister configured outlook express when she was here - but that was 8 months ago.  AFAIK, the only change to the computer is that trend antivirus expired.  But I don't see how that matters.  So I just don't see how this cropped up out of the blue.

I booted up outlook express becuase I always confuse .pst files with outlook express.  .pst files are outlook files that *nothing* else can read without outlook installed on the computer.

Anyway, when I get over to Mom's I'll try to clean er up.  Thanks for the help.  This went uncommented in the outlook topic area for a week!  I deleted it from there and reposted it here.
