Apache James mailserver - enable incoming email

I've just installed Apache James email server.  I can send email to external email accounts, but I cannot receive email from external accounts.  

 - can send email from a@mydomain.com to a@hotmail.com
 - cannot receive email from a@hotmail.com to a@mydomain.com
 - can send and receive email between a@mydomain.com and b@mydomain.com

smtp@mydomain.com and pop@mydomain.com are defined *only locally*.  (I created entries in windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts to map them to

Sounds like you need an MX record in DNS for the mydomain.com domain name. That tells the world what server(s) handle mail for your domain. Assuming your server is behind NAT, just give the MX record the public address just before your NAT and forward tcp/25 to the internal james server.
