Installing Exchange 2003 as a Front End

I know when installing Exchange you must run forest prep and domain prep first.  I already have a exhcange 2000 server running.  I am just setting up a front end.  Is this required for each install of exchange or only the first install?  Thanks ;)

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

forestprep and domain prep is required for a newer exchange version.
If you want to install exchange 2003 as a frontend it will show the 2000 web interface.
here is some more information:

I understand about that the OWA will be 2000.  I just figured if I am loading a exchange FE, why not use 2003 and at least get the forms view authentication.  I just want to be sure about how to load exchange 2003.  I don't want to create any issues.  Currently i have a exchange 2000 BE and FE.  But the FE has a few problems that are more work than just reloading a new FE.  So that is my plan, i just wanted to reach out and find out the process and if there are any downsides to doing that.  So...  Do I need to run forest prep and domain prep, or is that for the first install of exchange only?

Yes, if your introducing a newer exchange version (2003) you will have to run forestprep and domainprep
even if its only the frontend server.

Good Luck,

Walter
