Drivers for A Toshiba Satellite
dealing with a Toshiba Satellite 1710 (Europe)
Windows ME was the original OS but now I've put on W2k...
All the drivers are on except two - the Sound Card driver and the Network Controller
On the Toshiba site the only drivers they have are for WinME
How do I find the ones for Win2k?

I think it means it's not in Everest's data base of hardware !!
Try the earlier Aid32 (the predecssor to Everest): http://www.majorgeeks.com/download181.html
and perhaps Belarc: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

gary, ok both Aida32 and Belarc are not recognizing the Network Controller
- now what ?
- now what ?
Did your Windows 2000 CD have SP4 on it? If not, I'd install Service Pack 4. It MAY "know" about the network driver => I've found a lot of cases where the newer service packs (for both 2k and XP) will "know" about hardware that the base system does not.
... with any luck, that will resolve your issue :-)

gary, SP 4 installed - no joy...
I was looking at the specifications for this line and it does not appear to have an onboard NIC or port, did you add a network PC card? This notebook is a little older so it looks like it only came with a modem port for dial-up. I would check to see if the port is a NIC port by testing with a CAT5 ethernet cable and see if plugs in. Sometimes its hard to tell the size from just looking at it. (also, the modem port will have two wires inside, the NIC will have four).
If these are the correct specs for your computer, dsuyemoto is right -> there's no network adapter built in to it !! http://www.ciao.co.uk/Productinformation/Toshiba_Satellite_1710CDS__5375660
... that would also explain why there are modem drivers, but not network drivers on the Toshiba site.
However, some versions of the 17xx series (not sure if this included yours) were apparently shipped with a Cardbus ethernet adapter; and I did find the driver for that listed on the UK site along with the other 1710 drivers. I downloaded it and confirmed that is SEEMS to be the right driver if you have a Cardbus adapter. I'll attach it via ee-stuff ...

ok guyz - none of the solutions worked.
user has notified me that the network card with WinME stopped working last year so
I can assume that the network is defective and thats why none of the drivers such
as the one uploaded by gary never worked.
thanks for all the help - it was much appreciated.
ps: added a PCMCIA network card and that works fine.
You're welcome.
