Offline defrag using ESEUTIL

Related to an earlier question, priv1.edb has reached it maximum size, I need to run an offline defrag tonight to cleanup my DB. I removed 2 very large mailboxes from the server that should have cleared up plenty of space.

Could some please give me the proper syntax of the eseutil to create a new defragmented DB to a different location while preserving my original DB.

I'd like to do this in tonight please!

Hi ckelso,

I am sure you have read this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/192185/

The command you are wanting to run would be,

eseutil /d d:\exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb /bd:\exchsrvr\backup\priv2.ebd

This is assuming that d:\exchsrvr\mdbdata is the folder with your priv folder - Also, there is no space between /b and D:\exch... - that is the switch that makes a backup

Hope that helps,

Excellent. Thank you very much.

One other question related to this.

Once the defrag has completed, while the new DB automatically be copied back to the original location or priv1.edb? Or will I have to do this manually?
redseatechnologiesCommented:
Yes it will,

It backs it up to another area, and then works on the real DB

You can change this if you really want to - there is a switch for it in the link I provided
