SMTP Protocol error occurred.

Hi Experts,

I have honestly searched and have tried several of the options that were given in previous questions posted here but can't seem to get my email server to send mail to some email addresses like AOL, twcny.rr.com and about 10 other domains.  Messages continually queue up, but do not get sent.  We are running Windows 2003 standard with Exchange 2003 and a Pix515e as our firewall.
I am also recieving NDR's with the following error  "This message was rejected due to the current administrative policy by the destination server".
I have checked RDNS, we are not using dynamic addressing and we are not blacklisted or on the spam list.
About the only thing I am not able to do on some of the recommendations is to telnet from within my network to AOL or some other mail servers.  What occurs is I receive the 220 then a whole bunch of dots appear and thats about it, I get a blinking cursor and when I type helo or ehlo I receive 500.3.3 Unrecognized command.

I greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide me.

Thanks
Exchange

Hi Rcharg,

Sounds like you will need to configure the following ->http://www.amset.info/exchange/smtp-connector.asp

AOL and some other providers do not allow just anyone to connect to their smtp server, they block all dynamic ranges, and even some business DSL lines (with a static IP)

Hope that helps,

Hi Red,

We are on a T1 connection with a Static IP, so I still don't understand why we are not able to send mail to some domains.  Because I am unable to run telnet to test email to aol or any mail server, is there a possibly that something is getting blocked from my firewall that these domains are requiring?  I ran a reverse DNS check on our mail server and it passes, so I am not sure what exactly is going on or why it only occurs with only some domains.

Thanks.

Would you know why I am unable to run an smtp test from within my network?  I have allowed all outgoing traffic on our pix firewall, and it seems as if it will connect but all I receive is a 220 with all the dots but thats about it I get a blinking cursor without any mail server info.  Whenever I type any command at the prompt, I receive a 500 unrecognized command.

Thanks,

Because AOL simply don't trust you (or anyone else, really)

I can almost guarantee that the problem isn't them, I just tested from here (australia) and it worked - but that really doesnt mean anything

I would review this -> http://postmaster.info.aol.com/trouble/

Sorry I can't be more help, but I am quite certain you are stuck.
