DNS Bind Setup?

ok, im setting up DNS with BIND, and its my first run through...

im getting an error when i try to start DNS saying:

Failed to start BIND : Starting named: /etc/named.conf:1: unknown option '$ttl' /etc/named.conf:15: unexpected token near end of file /etc/rc.d/init.d/named: line 56: [: too many arguments [FAILED]

$ttl 38400
MYDOMAIN.net.    IN    SOA    ns1.MYDOMAIN.net. webmaster.MYDOMAIN.net. (

i appreciate that..

i have decided to upgrade/downgrade to cPanel which "they" tell me will be easier to setup.
